The Canarian Foundation Carrera por la Vida/Walk For Life, represented by her president Brigitte Gypen, donated to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) the amount of 4,000 euros that went towards the purchase of a non-invasive neuromodulation device, a tool indispensable in physiotherapy sessions for the treatment of local injuries. This year, Gypen also collaborated with the Kilómetro Solidario project, an initiative that aims to raise funds to finance the oncology patient transport program to the hospital center.
It is not the first time that Gypen has collaborated in the fight against cancer, since May of last year she presented the initiative “The B.R.A. Project“with the objective that all mastectomized women have a specialised bra adapted to each one of them. Thanks to the collaboration agreement signed by the AECC and the Foundation in 2018, all women affected by breast cancer who are users of the AECC will be able to acquire the first post-mastectomy bra in the pink room of the Foundation that is located in the south of Tenerife or in the headquarters of the AECC.
Fourteen years ago, Brigitte Gypen organised a solidarity walk in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that grew to become one of the largest solidarity events on the island with an attendance of 5,000 people. Subsequently, this event was transformed into a Foundation that contributes with research projects and supports associations that fight against cancer. In addition, in 2014 Brigitte received an award that recognises her career, dedication and commitment to the fight against breast cancer and the improvement of the quality of life of women who suffer from it.
The Canarian Foundation Carrera por la Vida / Walk For Life is an initiative that works, on the one hand, to meet the needs and demands of people affected by cancer and their families and, on the other hand, to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
Walk For Life allocates part of the collection to the associations that attend this type of disease such as the AECC and the Breast Cancer Association of Tenerife (ÁMATE). Likewise, most of the money is invested in women residing in the south of Tenerife, which allows them, among other things, to regain confidence and confidence in themselves.
