The LINFA Project of Walk for Life foundation provides part of the cost of lymphatic sleeves to people affected by lymphoedema caused by breast cancer surgery.
Lymphoedema is an accumulation of fluid in the soft tissues of the body when the lymphatic system is damaged or blocked. It often occurs in breast cancer in the arm of patients who have had either their entire breast, a part of it, or their lymph nodes removed.
Treatment of lymphoedema aims to control the swelling of the joint. To do so, the use of elastic garments or sleeves, such as those funded by the Walk for life foundation, is recommended for compression therapy to reduce the swelling and the pain, which hinder arm joint movement and affect their quality of life and autonomy.
