Awards at the 2024 Carrera por la Vida Gala
This year on World Breast Cancer Day, Saturday, October 19th, the second Walk for Life Foundation Awards will be presented at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Arona. These awards are presented in recognition of the support given to the Foundation by institutions, companies, groups, and individuals who have demonstrated their social responsibility and contributed to the development of projects to improve the quality of life of people with breast cancer.
The Walk for Life Foundation recognises the essential link between health and sport, and the importance of the promotion of physical activity. For this reason, one of the awards this year is going to the Tenerife Masters Club, which, as well as being an example of inclusion, has been the driving force behind the “Swim for Life” since 2013, a sporting non-competitive event which shows sporting support for breast cancer sufferers.
The Finca Canarias Aloe Vera company will be recognized for its unwavering commitment to, and steadfast support of the Foundation’s projects. This commitment has been not only demonstrated through corporate social responsibility and financial support but also in the creation of the ‘Dakar por la Vida’ project raising awareness of male and female breast cancer at the Dakar Rally, one of the most important motor races in the world.
In the social field, three bodies will be awarded. For the Walk for Life Foundation, supporting research is one of the fundamental objectives of their work. For their achievements in the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of cancer treatments, the FERO Foundation will be awarded the 2024 Walk for Life Foundation Research Award. The INVI Association is the first body in Spain to promote ongoing and constant activities in highlighting the prevalence of breast cancer in men and is this year’s recipient of the Social Action Award. Regionally, with more than 25 years of experience, the Abona Women’s Association is an integral part of the fabric of the Canary Islands.
More than one hundred women are members of this association, which works for the well-being and benefit of the members, and created the “Arico Moves for Life ” project, supporting people with breast cancer. They will receive the Social Initiative Award.
The media play a vital role in disseminating information but they also have a huge part to play in raising social awareness. For always being ready to support the work of the Foundation and for providing an effective and committed means of reaching the non-Spanish speaking public, Canarian Weekly is this year’s winner of the Walk for Life 2024 Foundation Media Award.
At the Gala, in addition to the Awards ceremony, the Walk for Life Foundation will share details of the activities that have taken place over the last year and the innovative projects and challenges for 2025, the year in which the Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The Gala is made possible through the support of the Arona Council and will be held on Saturday, October 19th at 7 p.m. at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos, Tenerife.
